Hong Kong's cultural scene is getting a wonderfully playful upgrade this summer. M+ Retail, situated in the heart of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WestK), has officially unveiled two major merchandise collections designed to transform everyday objects into delightful moments of discovery.

Launched in tandem with the highly anticipated family-friendly Special Exhibition, Design Ah! Experience the Wonder of Everyday Design, these exclusive releases invite locals and global travellers alike to reimagine design through a distinctly local lens.

Playful 'Design Ah!' Lifestyle Essentials & Cafe Collaborations

The newly launched M+ 'Design Ah!' Exclusive Exhibition Collection brings a vibrant, creative energy into daily routines with versatile lifestyle pieces inspired by the exhibition's examination of everyday design. From sleek typography baseball caps and minimalist T-shirts to handcrafted-style rugs, monogram knit socks, and vibrant canvas tote bags, the lineup effortlessly infuses artistic flair into personal street style and home decor.

To take the sensory exploration further, the M+ Shop has partnered with local boutique coffee brand nodi. Located at B1 within the museum, nodi will soon feature a special menu showcasing two locally inspired, iconic flavours: 'Siu Mai' and Hong Kong-style 'Yuen Yeung'. Visitors can also grab special-edition coffee drip bags to enjoy a taste of Hong Kong design culture long after their visit.

For a bit of interactive fun, don't miss the Gacha! Capsule Machines installed across the museum shops. This summer, they are dispensing a curated selection of tactile, 'sound-clicky' keychains in surprise colours. Modeled after familiar computer keyboard keys, pressing them rewards you with a satisfying mechanical click alongside an authentic 'Ah' sound effect, making them an instant, nostalgia-tinged favorite for social media sharing.

Nostalgic 'Very Hong Kong' Series Debuts First-Ever Blind Boxes

Capturing the vibrant energy and rich visual heritage of the city, the museum team has also debuted the meticulously crafted M+ 'Very Hong Kong' Series. Celebrating local collective memory, the star of this collection is a set of five adorable blind-box miniature plush charms. The characters reinterpret classic cultural icons that every Hong Konger will immediately recognize:

• The traditional street food staple 'Siu Mai'
• The vintage childhood 'Piggy Bank'
• The festive, energetic 'Lion Dance'
• The quintessentially retro 'Mahjong' tile
• The legendary green litter-bug character, 'Lap Sap Chung'

A standalone highlight of this series is the M+ Very Hong Kong 'Lap Sap Chung' sound keychain. This 3D silicone piece features a built-in sound device that plays the character's familiar 'lap sap' voice line when pressed. It perfectly blends humour, nostalgia, and contemporary design, giving collectors a whimsical way to weave Hong Kong's cultural charm right into their daily outfits.
