<p>As one of this quarter's Impact Trailblazers, Chinachem Group exemplifies the power of corporate action to drive meaningful change. Deeply aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, their initiatives inspire a rethink of how businesses can shape a more inclusive, equitable, and resilient community.&nbsp;</p><p>In this feature, we had the opportunity to speak to some of the incredible women who make Chinachem a true catalyst for progress—not just in Hong Kong, but on the global stage.&nbsp;</p><p><img src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/Untitled_design_99e0e4cbaf.png" alt="Untitled design.png"></p><p><strong>Sustainability as a Core Strategy&nbsp;</strong><br>At Chinachem Group, community impact takes center stage through innovative initiatives that redefine corporate social responsibility. Chief Business Impact Officer, and JESSICA Most Successful Women Awardee Sylvia Chung offered insights into how the Group shapes its community-focused programs.&nbsp;</p><p>"We strive to make a positive impact on the communities we serve. We create places where people congregate and enjoy shared experiences. Our dedication to integrating ESG initiatives into our operations ensures that sustainability is blended with our daily activities and decision-making processes. This commitment fosters a culture of responsibility and awareness within the community, ultimately enhancing our collective impact.” Sylvia explains, outlining the philosophy that drives the Group's community programs.&nbsp;</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/1_864581581f.png" alt="1.png"><figcaption>Sylvia Chung, Chief Business Impact Officer</figcaption></figure><p>This vision comes to life through initiatives like CCG Hearts, a unique loyalty program that transforms traditional rewards into opportunities for community service. Members can volunteer while benefiting those in need. At Nina Park, the Group takes an unexpected approach to community engagement, using fossil exhibitions to inspire visitors to reflect on the relationship between people, nature, and time.&nbsp;</p><p>These community-focused efforts are complemented by broader community engagement initiatives, such as the recent Chinachem Group Sustainability Conference 2024. Co- hosted with the Business Environment Council and Hong Kong Green Building Council, the conference drew more than 5,000 online and in-person participants, a 60% increase from the previous year. Under the theme “Integrating Sustainability Solutions towards a Resilient Future," the event brought together diverse sectors to address environmental challenges.&nbsp;</p><p>Their CCG 3050+ decarbonization roadmap has already yielded impressive results, with a 32.9% reduction in emissions from their 2020 baseline.&nbsp;</p><blockquote><p>“We believe in the power of experiences to strengthen community bonds and inspire creativity.”&nbsp;</p></blockquote><p>This commitment to sustainability has earned Chinachem international recognition, including a5-star GRESB rating — making them the only non-listed property developer in Hong Kong to achieve global and regional sector leadership status.&nbsp;</p><p>To Sylvia, these initiatives reflect the belief that positive change comes through providing platforms where ideas can be brought into action and communities can come together. Through investing in these impactful projects, the Group aims to promote social cohesion and inspire a sense of belonging, creating opportunities for growth while making meaningful contributions to the community they serve.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Amplifying Impact Through Storytelling&nbsp;</strong><br>Storytelling is a powerful tool for communicating CSR and ESG initiatives. Assistant Manager of Corporate Communications (Media) Vanessa Leung, who brings valuable insights from her journalism background, shares insights into how the company crafts and communicates its sustainability story. "I focus on identifying angles that resonate with our target audience by understanding their values, interests, and concerns," she explains. "By crafting narratives highlighting our initiatives' real-life impact on individuals and communities, we create a more relatable and compelling message."</p><p>She continues, "The REACT Campaign exemplifies Chinachem's innovative approach to environmental communication.” The initiative, which stands for Rethink, Exchange, Awareness, Cultivation, and Token (purposefully echoing "WE ACT"), tackles the challenge of making sustainability accessible and actionable. Recognizing that environmental concepts often feel abstract to many people, Vanessa and her team focus on creating tangible connections between sustainable practices and daily life. While recycling is widely recognized, the campaign broadens the public's understanding of environmental action by showcasing diverse waste reduction and sustainable living approaches.</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/3_36c2d704d2.png" alt="3.png"><figcaption>Vanessa Leung, Assistant Manager of Corporate Communications (Media)</figcaption></figure><p>Vanessa understands the importance of connecting with people from all walks of life. A powerful example can be seen in the media coverage of "One Beat One World: Connecting Through the Drum.” The initiative's coverage has spotlighted how personal stories can transcend cultural barriers. In one particularly impactful moment, a mother and son from a minority community, who typically shy away from public speaking due to cultural norms, were encouraged to share their experiences on camera. Their story of finding connection through drumming resonated deeply with audiences, demonstrating how thoughtful media coverage can amplify voices that might otherwise go unheard.</p><p>Vanessa also shared another example, the Group’s collaboration with Mind the Waves, a charity founded by Olympic swimmers Stephanie Au, Jamie Yeung, and last year's JESSICA Most Successful Women winner, Camille Cheng. Through their experiences as elite athletes facing intense pressure, these accomplished swimmers bring authentic voices to discussions about mental health in the younger generation, empowering everyone to be the best versions of themselves, regardless of their age or background.</p><p><strong>Revitalizing Communities Through Culture&nbsp;</strong><br>Chinachem Group's dedication to sustainability goes hand in hand with its commitment to preserving and celebrating Hong Kong's rich cultural heritage. Avis Li, Manager of Corporate Communications (CSR), provides insights into how the company integrates cultural development into its community initiatives. Projects honor the past while fostering a sense of belonging for future generations.&nbsp;</p><p>"At Chinachem Group, we recognize that culture and architectural conservation are vital to our CSR initiatives," Avis explains. "Our approach to cultural development and promotions is deeply integrated into our broader mission to enhance community identity and foster a sense of belonging among the people of Hong Kong."</p><figure class="image"><img src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/4_3d3f7a92bf.png" alt="4.png"><figcaption>Avis Li, Manager of Corporate Communications (CSR)</figcaption></figure><p>A standout example is the revitalization of the Central Market, a Grade III historic building. Once a bustling hub in the city's heart, the site has been transformed into a vibrant community space that celebrates Hong Kong's unique character. Avis explains, “Through meticulous restoration, Chinachem has preserved the building's historical significance while infusing it with modern functionality, offering locals and visitors a space to connect, explore, and enjoy shared experiences.”</p><p>“Similarly, Chinachem has embraced its role as a steward of cultural identity through projects like the Hing Chun Alliance, a 300-year- old Hakka village.” By supporting the preservation of this heritage site, the company is working to safeguard traditions that might otherwise fade away, ensuring future generations can connect with their cultural roots.</p><p>Programs hosted at Nina Park, Hong Kong's first wood fossil park, provide interactive learning experiences that bridge generational gaps and foster a deeper understanding of natural and cultural history. “With over 4,000 participants joining tours and workshops since its opening, Nina Park shows how innovative design can combine education, recreation, and community building.”</p><p>Beyond physical spaces, Chinachem actively engages communities through cultural partnerships. Collaborations with events like French May and the Gourmet Market bring international art and cuisine into local neighbourhoods, showcasing the company's commitment to blending global influences with local traditions.</p><p>Through these initiatives, Chinachem demonstrates that cultural preservation is more than a corporate responsibility—it's a vital investment in Hong Kong's community. Avis shares, “Fostering inclusive spaces and celebrating shared histories ensures heritage remains a cornerstone of sustainable urban development. These efforts align with our broader mission to create places where culture, community, and sustainability thrive together.”</p><p><strong>Art and Connection in Everyday Life</strong><br>For Chinachem Group, art is not confined to gallery walls or concert halls—it's a powerful tool for fostering connection and inspiring communities. Assistant Manager of Corporate Communications (CSR) Yoko Kok shares how the company integrates art into its community-building initiatives, creating accessible and interactive experiences that resonate with people from all walks of life. "We are committed to making art accessible to al. This cutting-edge art piece allowed participants to create glowing designs on an LED canvas using water, making art creation a playful, hands-on experience. "Complementing this was a series of French contemporary dance performances staged in open spaces where audiences could interact with dancers. These immersive events broke down traditional barriers between art and audience, transforming public areas into vibrant cultural spaces."</p><p>Another highlight is the Group'’s sponsorship of the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre, which allows students from Tsuen Wan to explore drama through literature appreciation workshops. “These experiences nurture young talent and foster inclusivity by bringing together participants from diverse backgrounds.”</p><p>Such initiatives reflect Cninachem's belief in the transformative power of art. “By making art accessible, we encourage dialogue and connection among individuals and communities.” These projects underscore the importance of breaking conventional molds—art, as Chinachem sees it, should be a shared experience that strengthens bonds and inspires creativity. “Through interactive installations, theater workshops, or cross-cultural collaborations, we show that art can unify lives and foster stronger, more inclusive communities.”</p><p><sub>Text by Jeremy Chapnick</sub></p>

Building An Impact Community: Chinachem Group 

<p>年輕的情侶LS與Mayu，二人因為厭倦了公式化的上班生活，雙雙毅然離職。熱愛音樂的他們決定創立自家品牌（Lumdums），並以自己的雙手，活化已損壞的黑膠唱片，使它們變成更有意義和價值的產品。他們以一雙巧手，讓音樂更靠近你和我。於是二人選擇在觀塘工業區開設studio，除了租金較普通地舖便宜外，更難得是工廈獨有的一份寧靜。比起很多商店林立的黃金地段，該區反而顯得相當靜謐。LS和Mayu建議大家，不妨花上一整天，爬到不同的大廈裡去，自然會發現內有乾坤，感受另一種慢活的生活態度。</p>
<p>活化黑膠唱片<br />
LS與Mayu有逛夜冷的習慣，他們發覺很多二手的黑膠唱片被受忽略，收賣這些唱片的公公婆婆們又不懂得打理，使它們的品質受損。喜歡音樂讓他們萌生了活化這些黑膠唱片的念頭。有「夾band」的LS選擇將它們變成音樂配件，而曾修讀時裝設計的Mayu便把唱片轉化成精美的飾物。<br />
音樂當然不只是「band友」的專利，為了讓普羅大眾都能接觸得到他們的活化產品，LS表示也花了不少心思去收集意見：「始終音樂配件只是小眾玩音樂的朋友才會接觸或購買，我們徵詢了不少朋友的意見後，便開始製作黑膠唱片的手機套。」這不但能使受損的黑膠唱片物盡其用，而且也讓音樂能夠走進生活。</p>
<p>堅持只選用受損唱片<br />
Mayu告訴我們，LUMDUMS收集用作製作產品的黑膠唱片，全部都是品質已經受損，而且無法再播放的。「若果利用未報廢的唱片來造產品，這樣會違背了我們的原意。」真正愛音樂，懂得音樂的人，當然不會白白浪費掉那些完好無損的黑膠唱片。<br />
有時候，面對一些客人要求他們使用指定歌手或唱片來製作產品時，他們都會這樣回答：「我們通常會先瞭解客人提供的黑膠唱片是否已經完全受損，否則我們是不會採用那些唱片的。若果客人真的很喜歡唱片的封套，我們會建議他們印刷後再配到受損的唱片上。」</p>

二人因為經常四處搜尋黑膠唱片，而結識了不少擺賣夜冷的基層老人。舊黑膠碟不少來自內地，輾轉落到這些老人的手中。若果有大量唱片，公公婆婆更會主動致電LS和Mayu。「我們通常都會用較高的價錢來回收他們的唱片，希望他們能掙多點生活費。」Mayu笑著說。<br />
二人除了會到擺賣夜冷的地方搜購這些「原材料」外，還會到澳門尋寶，與當地的合作夥伴交流，逛二手市場。他們更開心地表示這些機會讓他們結交了更多的朋友，有時候還會有意外的收穫，例如搜尋到一些較珍貴的黑膠唱片。</p>
<p>希望音樂融入生活<br />
近年來「黑膠文化」回流，不少的大型活動都與黑膠唱片有關，提及到這些相關的話題時，問及兩位有甚麼意見，二人都紛紛表示，這未必是一件壞事：「至少這些活動能讓大眾再次或者重新認識黑膠唱片，認識音樂。每件事物都會像輪迴般，消失了一陣子，又會突然興起，最重要的是本質沒有改變。」<br />
LS和Mayu表示，他們最大的初衷，並非希望藉著產品能賺取金錢，或贏取好評，而是希望透過他們的產品，能夠讓人感受到他們對黑膠的情感，以及它的歷史意義，同時也是具價值的東西。活化只是一種工序，以心對待才是最可貴的。</p>

從活化開始 靠近音樂

<p>從事花藝研究近30年的Lowdi，選擇了位於太平山街的這片淨土來開設花店。Lowdi開這家花舍的目的，除了以花會友外，還是為了傳承花的精神。樂於給予機會年輕人的她，更請了不少的大專生在店內學習及工作。成為花舍一份子不久的YY坦言，在這裡，不只是工作，也是她體會生活的地方。</p>
<p>從零開始<br />
Lowdi不介意年輕人是花藝「初哥」，因為她相信，年輕人只要肯用心學習，便能學懂感受花的美好。在大學修讀電影的YY，在花店工作前對花毫不認識，對花藝更是一竅不通。當初為了賺一趟旅費，想找份兼職，於是靠師姐介紹，便有了在花店工作的機會。<br />
除了YY外，在花店幫忙的年輕人原來多得很，他們大多都是大專學生，當中有不少是跟YY一樣，對花一無所知。Lowdi卻表示，年輕人由零開始，能讓花藝更容易地融入他們的圈子和世界。「在我們花店工作的年輕人們都是很乖巧的，他們願意學習，也很有活力。」Lowdi願意不斷給予機會年輕人，是十分難能可貴的。</p>
<p>將心比心<br />
被問及與這些小夥伴的關係時，Lowdi溫柔地笑著告訴我們，她就如他們的母親。「這是我身邊的人告訴我的，我對待他們像對待子女一樣，因為我不想大家的關係只是老闆與夥計，始終我們要以心待人。」<br />
 YY在花店工作，除了汲取了對花及花藝的相關知識外，更慶幸認識了Lowdi這位良師。對於YY而言，Lowdi的身分是師傅，是僱主，更是讓她接觸花的橋樑。Lowdi也很感恩有他們的幫忙，時常保持感恩的心，這應該是Lowdi總是笑得跟花朵一般燦爛的原因。</p>
<p>花的價值<br />
相比起歐洲、日本等地，本地對花，又或者是花藝的重視程度不高。在日本，不論是高級的大型商場，還是平民的社區小店，都能看到花店的蹤影。便宜的、價值不菲的盆栽比比皆是，可見惜花的文化已經深深植入當地人的腦袋裡去了。Lowdi也說，花朵的價值不應該只是它們嬌豔的外表，更重要的是，花還是藝術的本質。因此，她對待花朵，都會特別地<br />
呵護。<br />
「我曾經覺得買花是一件很浪費金錢的事情，我甚至叫我的父母或者朋友，在我的畢業禮時不要給我買花。但是在這裡工作後，才發覺的以前的想法錯了。在這裡，花並非一件商品，花是藝術品。」YY笑著說。從Lowdi手中所出的花，有一種不同的質感，它們沒有商業的味道，只有藝術和情感的<br />

花除了嬌豔動人外，它還是生命和情感的表現。可是現代人普遍的價值觀，都認為花是商品，是用作炫耀。Lowdi表示，要改變他們的想法，首先要讓他們明白，美麗的花朵也是得來不易的，瞭解不同花朵的生命週期，我們更可以反思生命。<br />
Lowdi語重心長地說：「每種不同的花都有它們獨有的形態、特徵、顏色、習性等，你要花心思去瞭解，便會衍生到原來人也跟花一樣，也是充滿著個性。這是一個生命的啟發，學懂欣賞和珍惜，是對花，是對生命的尊重。」Lowdi的話充滿著智慧，坐在一旁的YY和我聽完也感受良多，這畢竟也是多年來的花藝心得。</p>
<p>小巷中的人情味<br />
太平山街彷彿是一個世外桃源，那裡有數之不盡的小店，而且生活節奏很慢。Lowdi笑說，當初選擇這個地方，其實就是喜歡它很寧靜。偶爾有客人走過，除了買花之餘，也會與Lowdi閒聊，感覺就像會見朋友一般。<br />
在這裡工作了不久的YY說：「這裡是一個小社區，人人相處得很融洽。大家不時會一起聊聊天，有時更會請我們喝咖啡，吃蛋撻。在這裡，完全感覺不到隔膜的存在，人與人之間的聯繫很強，是外面的世界所沒有的。」相比起外面那種「各人自掃門前雪」的態度，這種工作環境，這種生活模式，誰不羨慕？</p>
<p>承傳「愛」<br />
除了經常與不同的品牌合作，舉行大型的活動外，Lowdi更樂意進行慈善活動，目的是讓花藝能融入社會，以花行善也能使得花更美。Lowdi不時也會與不同的機構合作，例如香港賽馬會、香港貿易發展局等，令更多層面的市民也能接觸到花藝。<br />
Lowdi相信，花藝也是一種治療情緒的方法，更能提升社交能力和創作能力。她鼓勵自由創作式的插花，她相信這樣能令人更愉快、自信。因此，她會定期在花店前的空地進行floral jamming活動，參加者無須任何經驗，只需挑選喜愛的花材及器皿便可自由發揮。每次有floral jamming的活動時，整個太平山街的社區都會變得異常熱鬧，滿是歡欣的氣氛。<br />
Lowdi以心會花，讓原本對花朵沒有絲毫認識的年輕人，甚至是各個階層的市民大眾，也能感受到她惜花的情懷，以她的態度來承傳「愛」。</p>

在巷弄中心呼喚愛

<p>一個老掉牙的問題：藝術到底有沒有階級之分？19世紀以前，藝術是上流權貴的專利；即使之後所有藝術場所都向大眾解放，准許一般民眾參與，時至今日也不代表藝術能滲透每個階層。與其等待他們自己走入音樂廳，姚珏決定深入社區，主動為普羅大眾送上首首古典名曲。原來這個世界級著名小提琴家還在追逐實踐其音樂夢。這個夢，think big，impact greatly。</p>

Y：我們香港弦樂團去年中得到香港賽馬會慈善基金會的贊助，成立了為期3年的「賽馬會音樂能量計劃」，你從相中所見的流動車是我們開幕啟動禮活動。我們將一輛貨車稍稍裝飾成音樂廳，那天以「快閃」形式出沒18區，觀眾們都很驚喜，反應很熱烈！<br />
J：在社區演出肯定跟你平常在音樂廳很不一樣吧。<br />
Y：是的！在尖沙嘴站時，我們本來只打算留在車上表演，但見到群眾我也不禁下車近距離接觸他們，感覺完全不同。在台上是較自我，但在街上便很互動，可以直接跟觀眾靈活交流。作為音樂家，我最希望可以將音樂以最快的方式傳達給觀眾，街頭表演肯定是最接近的。作為樂手，在吵鬧的街上演奏要加倍專注，但這經驗也不失為很好的鍛鍊，因為我認為藝術家在何時何地都要克服所有障礙，馬上進入表演的情緒。<br />
J：表演的時候有很多小孩嗎？<br />
Y：有很多小孩，其實他們不知道我們去的，我們事前只在Facebook預告我們會到甚麼地方，但沒有確實時間。當流動車到達後，觀眾很驚喜，音樂奏起時，人群便湧上來。小孩子聽到音樂沒有繼續四處跑或叫嚷，都很安靜的在觀賞。<img class="paragraph-image" alt=" title="I Have A Music Dream 以樂韻影響社會" src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/files/_mg_0120x1.jpg" />J：在社區表演真的很有意思，開幕禮這麼成功，<br />

Y：其實「賽馬會音樂能量計劃」合共有3個環環相扣的部份。社區音樂會是其中之一，承接流動車的成功，我們接下來會繼續在18區辦戶外露天音樂會，於3年內共演38場，把古典音樂帶給各區市民。此外，我們挑選了240位來自低收入家庭的小學生，由我們的樂手義教拉小提琴。最後我們會舉辦大型音樂會，門票不作公開發售，只會邀請弱勢社群來參與，今年6月我們便會辦第一場。待我們的小學員學有所成後，他們也會有機會一同參與音樂會<br />
演出！<br />
J：這是一個很有意義的計劃。<br />
Y：是跟一般的音樂計劃不同，它是結合了「教育」、「表演」和「教育＋表演」。我們利用音樂陶冶性情外，也希望這個世界大同的語言能令基層年輕音樂愛好者重拾自信，通過學習影響身邊人，把正能量帶到他們的圈子。香港已經有大型音樂會或藝術節，<br />
世界一流表演單位都會來港，但我覺得要真正把香港變成一個國際大都會，最重要還是要讓每個不同角落都能感受藝術。跟我一起表演的樂手也沒接觸過這種情況，藉此機會他們都了解到音樂是不能跟社會脫勾，亦很享受過程。能令他們有這樣的啟發，我很有成功感。<br />
J：你們的團隊有多少人？<br />
Y：香港弦樂團是個慈善機構，我們目標是培養本地年輕音樂家，目前有20個彈奏弦樂的藝術家。至於我們的辦公室，除了我就只有3個員工，因此大家都很緊張，忙得不可交叉，<br />
J：真的很厲害！很難得！<br />
Y：說真的這確是個很難忘的機會。音樂讓我渡過很多難關，找到快樂和療癒，得到很多機會。我希望音樂能令更多人能找到自我，低下階層也可以音樂的舞台上大放光芒。現在香港有很多慈善團體，但我們做得很深入，就像走到他們的身在地為他們服務，便能提供更方便和充裕的認識機會。<img class="paragraph-image" alt=" title="I Have A Music Dream 以樂韻影響社會" src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/files/_mg_0206x1.jpg" />J：我覺得音樂應該是這樣。你能想到這個概念，並把它實行，真的很不容易。<br />
Y：做的過程也是我的學習過程，整個計劃都是項創作，當中有很多細節都難以預料，例如因為演出是在戶外，當中牽涉很多變數，但想到觀眾會喜歡，我硬著頭皮也要做。<br />
J：你堅持在公眾地方演出是對的，it does make a difference。<br />
Y：我曾跟不同組織合作，雖然很多方面也有分別，但發覺只要找到共同語言，事情實行起來會特別容易。<br />
J：我一直也這樣想，每人雖然說著不同語言，但每人不是在看一樣的樂譜嗎？<br />
Y：我出國唸書時還未懂英文，但大家一講起樂譜時便毫無障礙，容易成為朋友。音樂的能量真的很強大，可以影響人生。但願透過這樣輕鬆愉快的方式，能把它發揚光大，令人快樂些，社會和諧一點。<br />
J：我認為你在推動的事都非常好，我們自2010年成立的「旭茉JESSICA 慈善基金」踏入今年也希望再調整方向，釐清受助群組，做些與別不同的活動，就像你現在做著的項目。<br />
Y：去年我獲香港理工大學頒授大學院士榮銜，除了感到很榮幸，也感激理大對藝術的支持，更可以說是為我致力推廣的藝術工作打下強心針。<br />
J：可是說回來，要處理這麼多工作，不累嗎？<br />
Y：累還是累的，幸好女兒不用我憂心，也感激先生給我空間做我想做的事。回顧去年，我認為自己的生活真的較之前平衡了，雖然仍在努力學習中，但終於懂得要休息，跟家人一起過quality time。<br />
J：大女兒今年考大學了，心情應該很緊張吧？<br />
Y：你說不緊張是不可能的，她在9月便會是大學生啦，想要到美國唸國際關係。<br />
J：你還有個小女兒，要照顧兩個女兒真不簡單。<br />
Y：很幸運我兩個女兒都很棒，很獨立，不會讓我費心，不然我根本沒可能做這麼多事情。大女3年前提出到外國的寄宿學校唸書，鍛鍊自己，那時我陪她到學校安頓好一切後，回程時在飛機上哭了出來，有點捨不得。後來她非常好，當了學生領導，功課都取得一流成績，想不到寄宿的經驗能令從前膽小的她帶來這麼大改變，令她成為一個很有自信的人，讓我很安慰。明年便到小女兒出國了。<br />
J：想必到時你又會在飛機上流眼淚！<br />

I Have A Music Dream 以樂韻影響社會

<p>過去幾個月，聽到幾個好友患病、出意外，心裡的確感到不舒服。人在異地，身體要健康，也要安全，但也要為突發患病或意外而預早籌謀。</p>
<p>醫保卡的效用</p>
<p>勞動合同裡，我是屬於公司的本地聘請外籍員工，所以醫療保險與香港無關，是依照內地法。內地每月發工資前自然扣除點點為醫保費，費用放在醫療卡裡，去定點藥房買藥，或真的需要去醫院，就可以直接在哪裡扣款，這也算是內地硬性規定給勞動者預留的醫療費吧。我常常笑，這個醫保費我情願浪費好了，因為最好在中國日子沒有病痛。當然，這個醫保卡可以看中醫，聽過有朋友乾脆把錢去用來針灸減肥好了。偶爾我也會到藥房為老人家買點保健藥品作送禮用。這些預先進貢醫保費，一定不會浪費。中國醫保也不是不好，但當然，如遇到到中國工作機會，能與公司爭取到國際醫療保險會更好。</p>
<p>成藥</p>
<p>每個地方氣候不一樣，例如住北方的朋友如果有花粉症，到春天木棉樹漂浮的木棉容易引起敏感，必須預備適當藥品。內地的暑期蠻高溫，容易中暑，市民流行購買一種成藥正氣液，很管用，我在家裡也備著。身體扭傷的話，有一種外敷藥特別管用，那就是扭傷後用的藏傳膏貼，這個膏貼因為是西藏神秘藥方，成分不曝光，所以不能外銷。每一次扭傷，貼24小時後就康復，是我家裡必備的呢。在內地生活，有時候就要相信一下中醫療法；上期已經提過，自己愛按摩，三伏天來個年度拔罐，讓「冬天病夏天防」，也是一種人在異地對身體的愛惜吧。</p>

<p>可信度</p>
<p>很多人怕在內地出事，因為聽過太多不可靠醫療新聞。內地最愛把醫生分等級，「教授」級別的專家是值錢，但我覺得最重要反而是有沒有醫德；畢竟內地人才多，真的有心有料的醫生專家是存在，主要看是否有緣遇到而已，也不用太過擔心。再說，內地勝在人口真的太多，去抽血點滴時，發覺護士的用針技術既快又不痛，有朋友笑說「護士一天要為太多人抽血打針，這個以量取勝的培訓，只有內地做得到」；說得幽默但不無道理。最終，不管人在哪裡，身體必須健康安全，也必須充分準備突發事情。如我沒有國際保險，也就在港多買一份醫療保險備份，同時好好照顧自己，運動保健不能忽略。人在異鄉，不能讓家人擔心。最後，借此祝大家身體健康，好友們早日康復。<br />

身體健康

<p>物料，非常概括又含糊的一個統稱。生存在世，凡是能用手觸及的都是物料；研究和發明物料的人彷彿都是深不可測，想不到眼前的Elaine正是其中一員。從紡織物料開始，她後來指涉應用在醫學和汽車工業的記憶合金，又跨界將設計融入藝術。她的作品秉承設計的精神，著力改善生活，同時不失樂趣玩味。</p>
<p><img src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/files/jes189a175p06x1.jpg" title="開拓物料的想像 吳燕玲" class="paragraph-image" alt="開拓物料的想像 吳燕玲"/>踏入3月，一連串大型藝博會令香港藝壇再度蓬勃起來。適逢去年初獲頒Design Miami的設計新星獎，讓Elaine躋身參與今年Art Central，成為這門大型盛事的一份子。Elaine稱：「Design Miami的獎項猶如設計界的的奧斯卡，門檻很高，因為需要業界人士提名才有機會競逐，而事實上我還是到宣佈結果一刻才知道自己得到了這殊榮，感到很驚喜和榮幸！Swarovski是當時的評審之一，因而造就了我們合作的機緣。雖然製作過程時間非常有限，但我很感激團隊給予的技術支援，以及品牌的開放思維──他們只要求我的作品要創新，甚至毋須用上他們的水晶呢！」<br />
是次作品名為《Sundew》，靈感源自一種同名的植物。這種毛氈苔形同捕蠅草，以鮮艷的外型和迷人香氣誘導昆蟲接近，然後捕獲它們。Elaine以這樣的設定化成壯觀的水晶裝置展區，利用香氣模擬真實情況，以糅合水晶粒的手工紡織品製做眩目的光線，配上富驚喜的機械動態「捕捉」觀眾，要只顧低頭為打卡而玩手機的人們猛赫然停下來，與作品交流互動，她解釋：「Biomimicry（仿生物科技）是我喜愛探討的命題，大自然中有其奧妙的運作機制，我想以這樣輕鬆的方式介紹給觀眾。」</p>

<p>作為研究員的Elaine，可不是每天坐在工作室，不問世事埋頭研發冰冷的新物料，事實上她熱衷為發明注入溫度。除了顧念自然環境，也發起關懷人文的項目，「3年前我開始來往貴州進行與當地人交流的計劃。那裡的傳統紡織技術絕美，可惜隨年青人遷徙至大城市打工而出現文化斷層，而他們的非常可惜。為了保存這個傳統，我跟這些村民合作，提供現代物料，如尼龍予織女們按他們代代相傳的方法製作。」<br />
成品是一幅幅精密大器、滿佈細節的布料，由於部份組織的特質堅韌，更可扭塑不同造型，用於時裝上可製作不同配飾，Elaine便以這種物料造了一件可隨意更改形狀的頭飾。現今大城市崇尚手工藝，她希望有天能將新設計引進精品的生產工業，令貧窮的婦女可以自給自足。「 從前那套設計理論是局限於平面圖像或一件物件，追求美感。在我眼中，現在的設計是一個平台、社區甚至系統；我們想改善的不止是個人生活，而是群體的水平。在貴州的項目中，目標受眾是當地的少數民族，所設計的是找方法去轉換他們的製作，令富民族色彩的手作跟時尚接軌，最終讓他們在文化認同或經濟上受惠。」<img src="https://prd-cdn.jessicahk.com/files/jes189a175p07x1.jpg" title="開拓物料的想像 吳燕玲" class="paragraph-image" alt="開拓物料的想像 吳燕玲"/>科研不是男性專利</p>
<p>秉持造福人群的理念，她在英國頂尖的聖馬丁學院中由紡織入手，繼而攻讀智能物料；作為物料設計師，她參與過的製作包括布料、應用在汽車業的合金、耐用的手機設計，實在變化萬千，層出不窮，她總結：「概念上紡織的成品不一定只是衣物，所造的物料的定義從來都很廣闊，它可以是柔軟的、堅硬的、彈性的、流動的。從學院走到工作研究的場域，我學會將抽象的想法應用在現實社會，看到它如何提升人民的生活質素。研究是個奇妙的過程，學會事物背後的操作都有利我改善設計的成果。」<br />
即使參與藝術創作，Elaine的作品也運用上設計的思維。製作包含多感觀體驗的《Sundew》時，那怕是與英國香氛專家一同塑造模仿植物的香氣，乆以至扭緊裝置上的一顆螺絲，也是她親力親為，一手包辦。看她拿著扳手輕鬆爬上長梯，自顧自修理裝置頂部的組件，一晃眼又見她手執焊槍處理細碎零件，整個流程好比特技演出。相信很多女性都會跟我一樣，當下浮現在腦中的是：電子這回事，我懂甚麼？她謙遜笑說：「對於學習電子零件和操控，我總算能易於掌握。其實作為女性，我不認為對我在工作上有任何阻礙，表現也不亞於男性，畢竟最重要還是練習和不恥下問；事實上，女性的手指比較纖細，在做接焊等細致工序時，理應有靈活的優勢！」<br />
那麼，從事研究和開發的行業定是陽盛陰衰，這是定理嗎？「Yes and no。工作上的確多數與男性接觸，但最近我到訪了馬來西亞的學院，發現他們所有工程師都是女性，所以凡事無絕對，都是成見罷了。反過來說，因為工作所需我們都不能穿戴華衣上班，或者令很多女性覺得很沒趣，於是對這個行業都打退堂鼓，哈哈。」 </p>

生於英國，畢業於聖馬丁學院，主修紡織設計、其後攻讀碩士，集中研究智能物料。她曾於日產汽車歐洲設計總部工作，開發汽車物料；2011年獲諾基亞受聘，及後搬往北京出任其高級物料設計師。2013年成立個人設計及研究工作室The Fabrick Lab，從事多媒體創作，翌年公司基地隨她的移居遷至香港。2015年於榮獲Design Miami的施華洛世奇未來設計師大獎  / Swarovski Designers of the Future獎項，亦令她贏得將於本年Art Central藝博會上展出與Swarovski合作製作大型互動裝置作品的機會。</p>
